Although at the first sight it might seem Fuerteventura has been created just for lying on the beach, delightful idleness, occasional refreshing in the sea waves, it is not right. In addition to the mentioned activities it has much more to offer. There are some tips what to do on the island:
Nearly forty beautiful windmills, traditional buildings on the island, have been preserved throughout Fuerteventura. Their formation was particularly enabled by excellent weather conditions and they were intended to produce special flour from roasted grains and corn called Gofio, which is still part of the local cuisine. While walking through the countryside you will definitely see some mills, for example windmill Molino de Antigua.
And if you go for a trip around the island, do not miss traditional seaside villages (e.g. Tefia is very interesting) which are typical of their scenic architecture, churches and the remains of historical sites and their residents like showing off their folk arts of basket weaving or pottery production.
Betancuria, the original capital of the island, is one of the most interesting cities. It is situated in the central part of the territory and its roots date back to the 15th century. A walk through its streets is a little trip into history. There is also a small archeological museum, a restaurant or a nice white church from the 17th century.
Although the local nature seems in some places unwelcoming, do not be mistaken. In fact there are 13 nature reserves at Fuerteventura. There you can see for example well known medicinal plant aloe vera in its natural environment, also different species of birds and adorable squirrels that can be easily fed by tourists like we know from Frantiskovy Lazne (Franzensbad).
Especially children will be literally excited about water games, which are offered by the aquapark Baku Fuerteventura, near the resort Corralejo, but surely they will also like the safari or zoo. On the contrary, mainly adult golf fans will benefit from the excellent conditions and courses intended for this green sport.
