The island of endless beaches, the azure ocean, the hot sun and perfect holiday relaxation. That is Fuerteventura. It is attractive above all by its beautiful coastline covered with golden or white sand and lapped by crystal clear water of the Atlantic Ocean. It could be nearly said that Fuerteventura is an oasis of the Atlantic. Right in this small paradise on the earth you can forget about everyday worries and indulge in relaxation in the glow of warm sunshine.
Fuerteventura is located, together with the island of Lanzarote, in the easternmost of the seven Canary Islands, and in terms of size it is the second largest island (after Tenerife).
Fuerteventura, like the other Canary Islands, is also the result of a volcanic activity of volcanos tens of millions years ago. They formed a landscape which is rich of hills as well as lowlands. But it must be said that the island often struggles with water shortage, as it is the driest area of the Canary Islands. It is necessary to think about it when visiting the island and make sure you have enough bottled drinking water. However, the fact that Fuerteventura is a dry island, probably due to the short distance from the African Morocco (about 100 km), it is the warmest place of the Canary Islands, therefore you will absolutely not be cold in any part of the year.
The island is not too rich in vegetation. In holiday resorts you will surely see nice and neat shrubberies, palm trees and gardens with lots of flowers and maintained bushes. However, going further inland there is only very scanty green. Nevertheless, the landscape has its distinctive charm with a touch of exoticism.
The weather at Fuerteventura is really perfect for tourism. Although it changes during the year, temperature fluctuations are not dramatic and it can be described as summer. In winter the average temperature is about 20-25 degrees, while in summer it is about 28 degrees. In addition, Fuerteventura is also known as the island of sun because there are over 300 sunny days in a year. And there is hardly any rainfall. There is lower rainfall throughout the whole December than in the Czech Republic. And in summer it does not rain at all.
The wind often blows here, mostly from the north or northeast, which both pleasantly protects against high summer temperatures and also makes Fuerteventura a paradise for surfers.
As far as the sea temperature is concerned, it is ideal for swimming at almost any time. In winter it is a bit colder (around 20 degrees), in summer months it is around 22-24 degrees and therefore offers a pleasant refreshment. Of course, the sea is warmer in shallow sandy beaches. Generally, the temperature is around 21 degrees most of the year, so even though it is not exactly "like coffee" it is very pleasant and during hot days it is probably the best and the most attractive way of refreshment.
Although most holidaymakers go to the island mainly for sunbathing on beaches and swimming in the sea, these are certainly not the only attractions Fuerteventura can offer. There are very diverse landscape units that are a pleasant diversification of the stay as well as provide good opportunities for further activities during holiday. Therefore you can also meet, in addition to the already mentioned beaches and beautiful scenery with the sea in the background, reddish arid steppes, plains, desert dunes, hills and sharp rocks.
The beaches at Fuerteventura are allegedly the most beautiful beaches in the whole Canary Islands. They are mostly covered with white or golden soft sand that constitutes the strips along the coast, up to several kilometers long, which literally lure for summer lounging and sunbathing. And even in the high season they are not overcrowded and you can always find a space just for you. In the mornings and evenings they are a good place for romantic walks as well as nostalgic views of the sunrise or sunset. It is not surprising they have been used as perfect scenery for photographers and filmmakers when creating advertisements, fashion photographs, posters and calendars.
There are over 150 beaches on the island of Fuerteventura so you have a wide choice indeed. Especially families with children, looking primarily for the safety of their kids, will find suitable conditions in most coastal tourist centers. The entry into the water here is ideal for non-swimmers or less experienced swimmers and therefore is suitable for children's water plays. Thanks to good weather conditions, many water sports can be done here. tucne: Windsurfing is the most popular and the world August championship in this field takes place every year here. Those who have not tried it yet, do not have to be sad. There are many rentals and instructors available, so you can get the adrenaline going. Those people who like hunting activities can use opportunities of fishing in local waters. Finally the beauty of underwater diving can be recommended to those who despise the thought of fish suffering.
The peninsula and the resort of Jandía (the area of our bungalow) is undoubtedly the most popular area around the island, at least when it comes to beaches. It juts into the sea in the south of the island of Fuerteventura and forms the island into the shape of a fish. How peculiar. After all, fishing is closely linked with the Canary Islands. It is part of the livelihood for local people but mainly it supplies the restaurant with fresh seafood, from which local chefs prepare delicious dishes for a sweet tooth of holidaymakers. Besides fishing and tourism, the inhabitants of the island also specialize in agriculture, especially goats breeding, whose milk is then used for the production of excellent cheese, the local specialty.
But back to the beaches of Fuerteventura... As already mentioned, Jandía Peninsula - an area where our bungalow is located – is the most important beach area. Here you can find the biggest summer resort Morro Jable, well-equipped resort with shopping and catering opportunities and especially pleasant beaches. The same peninsula offers one of the most popular water activities for sport fans – windsurfing. It is mainly done in Sotavento, which is an ideal place for this sport, due to regular wind. Additionally, the beach is really huge - several kilometers long and wide up to several hundred meters under the water level.
